"Event ID 1314 using SharePoint Pages" by DavidMSterling on November 17, 2007, 3:36 am, in category General
When working with Page Layouts and custom Site Content types, you might encounter that users cannot access pages that are created, usually returning the Access Denied message and prompted to login as a different user. This is particularly a problem with Anonymous Access.

If you examine the System Event Application Log, you'll see that ASP.NET will flag an Information message with Event ID 1314 "Access Denied".

The root of the problem is based on the Security settings in MOSS. B.....

"Where are the Office Web Components???" by DavidMSterling on November 13, 2007, 3:48 am, in category General
Many of you are aware that the Office Web Components were not created for MOSS, in part because of the emphasis to sell Performance Point, much to the dismay of many that don't want to spend the money for that package.

Return to Site Settings and click Site Features and repeat enabling the features you need. Site Collaboration features are disabled by default an.....

For those of you that have had an issue with Site Content Types and Site Columns and their use on Pages using Designer, there are some typical problems which are not readily apparent in Microsoft's documentation on Designer.

One of the most common problems is when you create a page layout then mysteriously, when you go to use the page, the fields defined on it do not appear. Another is when you go to edit a page and get an error regarding the type of field - even though it appears corre.....

"Tip: Getting error messages out of SharePoint" by DavidMSterling on October 22, 2007, 12:24 am, in category General
Have a useful tip for you developers out there. As you know the SharePoint "error" page is not very good about indicating what has happened when an error has occurred - while good that the user's don't see it, it is pretty frustrating when developing.

To get around this issue requires a few updates to the Web.Config file in the site you are working with. Of course, the first is that the site be enabled for debugging - locate the line:

debug="false"

and change it .....
