I often am asked why when a site has been deployed, the typical site templates expected do no appear. Depending on the site type, the usual answer is that the features have not been enabled.
Login to the site and go to the Site Settings. Under the Site Collection, look for Site Collection Features and click on it. Enable any features you need. Return to Site Settings and click Site Features and repeat enabling the features you need. Site Collaboration features are disabled by default and must be enabled to use the standard SharePoint tools.
When you return to the site and create a new one, you should see all of the templates available.
